Q: What is Microsoft FrontPage?
Microsoft FrontPage is a product that helps you create and maintain your Web site. It allows you to design and create your Web site on your local computer and then publish the entire site to your Angelfire Web site. Other FrontPage components allow you to add text searches, personal conferences, and much more.
Q: Which versions of Microsoft FrontPage does Angelfire support?
Angelfire supports FrontPage 2002, FrontPage 2000, and Office 2000. FrontPage versions prior to 2000 are not supported.
Q: Do I need to enable my site for Microsoft FrontPage?
If you signed up after 4/27/2005, you do not need to enable your account because it has automatically been enabled upon signup. If you signed up prior to that date, you can enable your account by visiting the My Account page and clicking on the "enable" link in your FrontPage preferences.
Yes. To disable Microsoft FrontPage on your site, go here. After disabling Microsoft FrontPage on your site, you can safely delete all of the files and directories added by FrontPage.
Q: Can I still use the Web Shell?
Certainly. All HTML files created by Microsoft FrontPage can be edited with the Advanced Editor. You will not be able to easily edit the Microsoft FrontPage Components through the Web Shell — just the standard HTML.
Q: Why can't I see all my files in the Web Shell?
The Web Shell will only list three directories deep, but rest assured all of the directories are there, you just can't see them. The Web Shell does not identify spaces in directory and file names. Do not use them. Things will get all screwy if you do.
Q: Which Microsoft FrontPage features are implemented?
Almost all of them. We have disabled the ability to set browsing and viewing permissions through Microsoft FrontPage. Only you are allowed to administer your Web site and anyone can browse it. (Remember also that two features — Scrolling Marquee and Hovering Text — will only work on an Internet Explorer browser, version 3 or higher). In addition, Angelfire does not yet support subwebs.
No.
Q: How do I get access to my Microsoft FrontPage-based site once I've uploaded it to Angelfire?
Your Microsoft FrontPage-based site can be accessed at www.angelfire.com/dir/membername/. For administrator and author permissions, the user name is your Angelfire directory and member name (dir/membername) and the password is your Angelfire password.
Q: Who should I go to for support? Angelfire or Microsoft?
For problems using Microsoft FrontPage on your own computer, contact Microsoft. For problems publishing your page to Angelfire, or if something doesn't work correctly on Angelfire, take a look at Angelfire's Help Section to see if your issue is listed under common issues. You can also contact Angelfire Customer Service via the feedback form on the help section.
Pages created with Microsoft FrontPage Express should work fine. If you use Web Publishing Wizard, upload your pages via FTP, not Microsoft FrontPage.
Q: How do I upload files to my Angelfire account?
- Open up "My Computer" from your Desktop.
- Double click on the "Web Folders" or "My Network Places" icon. If you do not see one of these icons, make sure you are using Microsoft FrontPage 2000 or Office 2000. Angelfire does not support earlier versions.
- Double click the "Add Web Folder" icon in the Web Folders window. This will open the "Add Web Folder" wizard.
- In the text box, enter your Angelfire homepage URL: http://www.angelfire.com/oh/boy/. Click Next.
- The next screen will prompt you for a name for your web folder. Enter any name you want. Click Next.
- You will be prompted for a username and password. Your username will be oh/boy. Your password will be your Angelfire password. Note: if you change your Angelfire password, don't forget to change the password that FrontPage has stored on your machine.
- Click OK.
- Choose "Open Web" from the File menu.
- In the left hand menu, choose "Web Folders."
- Click on the folder you created above, or type your Angelfire URL in the Folder name input box (http://www.angelfire.com/oh/boy/). Click Open.
- You will be prompted for a username and password. As above, your username will be oh/boy. Your password will be your current Angelfire password. Note: if you change your Angelfire password, don't forget to change the password that FrontPage has stored on your machine.
- Click OK.
